On a different subject ....

Something I meant to post yesterday but didn't get a chance to. Troy had the day off and came to pick me up with Baron so we decided to run a few dog related errands and headed to Round Rock outlet mall and Tomlison's Petstore . While on these runs I realized I may have the start of a solution for a behavior problem with Baron.

The problem I currently have with him is becoming overly excited to play when he sees another dog. In today's world when he sees another dog he becomes excited, and tries to bolt towards the dog but is stopped by his collar or harness which causes him to rear up and bark.

I think I have two approaches.

What I *think* I need to start resolving this is train a cue to gain his attention so I can focus him on me. This would provide me the foundation to train him how to properly behave when he sees another dog.
My thinking is if I can train him to look at me when I say his name then I may be able to cue him to sit.

The second approach is to borrow a friend's dog to recreate the situation. Start out at a certain distance and have him sit.

I'm not sure exactly where I want to go with him after the sit. Should I work towards him ignoring another dog or sit for greeting another dog or both?

This is where I need to break down what I want and how I can approach it. I'll send another e-mail to the group to get feed back before I try anything but I'm afraid they maybe tired of seeing me lol.
